What are Full Mouth Dental Implants?
Suppose you are missing all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw. In that case, full-mouth dental implants can replace the complete arch of missing teeth with a dental prosthetic resembling a denture that attaches to dental implants in the jawbone. These prosthetics are lighter and thinner than conventional dentures and are permanently attached, giving you greater stability and easier care than dentures.
Options for Full Mouth Dental Implants
Depending on whether you need to replace the upper or lower teeth, there are several options for replacing missing teeth.
What if all my lower teeth are missing?
Many patients find it difficult to wear and eat with lower dentures. If you are missing all of your lower teeth, several implant-supported replacement options are available.
Ball Attachment Denture
One option is to have two implants placed in your lower jaw, and creating a denture made that snaps onto them. This gives you some stability but does not eliminate all denture movement. Sore spots may still develop, and food can get caught under it. Periodic adjustments will be needed.

Bar Attachment Denture
Another option involves placing four to six implants into your lower jaw. The implants are connected with a special support bar. Your denture will attach to this bar, enabling the denture to snap firmly into place. This is called an “overdenture.” It is still removable and has greater stability and less movement than the ball attachment procedure.

Screw Retained Denture
A third option is a permanent denture attached to five or more implants. The denture is held in place by screws or clasps that secure it to support posts or a bar. The denture doesn’t touch the gums, so you can clean beneath your denture without removing it. These are similar to full-mouth dental implants and are not removed except at maintenance visits.

Individual Implants
The final option is to have all your teeth individually replaced to closely resemble your natural teeth. This option requires eight or more implants. Crowns are attached using separate abutments for each one. This is the costliest option and requires strong jawbone integrity.

What if all my upper teeth are missing?
A similar range of full-mouth dental implants is available for your upper jaw. However, because the bone is softer in the upper jaw, additional implants are often needed to support the restorations.

We can often use a denture that does not cover the roof of your mouth for a more natural feel. This lets you fully taste your food and gives you a better sense of its temperature. The denture is still removable for cleaning.

A non-removable option that looks and feels like your natural teeth is individual crowns placed on eight to ten individual implants.

How much do full mouth dental implants cost?
With so many options available, estimating the cost of full mouth dental implants is almost impossible. The type and number of implants, dental prosthetics, the anesthesia, and other factors all come into play. We suggest scheduling a no-obligation consultation with Dr. Korban or Dr. Clark to get an accurate cost estimate. They can help you decide which option is best for you and offer an exact price quote.
Who is a good candidate for full mouth dental implants?
Anyone who has lost all or most of their teeth in the upper or lower jaw is a good candidate for full mouth dental implants if they are in good health and do not have active gum disease. If you have certain conditions, such as a bleeding disorder, uncontrolled diabetes, or an autoimmune disease, dental implants may not be right for you.
What is the recovery time after the procedure?
Most patients rest at home for 2-3 days following implant surgery and feel like themselves again within a week. Full integration of the implants with the surrounding bone takes 3-6 months.
Does the procedure hurt?
The surgery does not hurt because we numb the jaw and gums, and you are sedated during surgery. Post-operatively, you will have some discomfort and swelling for the first 3-4 days. If necessary, we will prescribe a non-opioid pain reliever, but many patients find that an over-the-counter medication is sufficient. Ice packs also help with the swelling. The pain quickly subsides after the third day.
